Effective <strong>onboarding<\/strong> enables new employees to <strong>feel part of the company<\/strong> from day one, improving their <strong>productivity<\/strong> and <strong>engagement<\/strong>. The process begins when a job offer is made and continues until the employee becomes a <strong>productive member of the organisation<\/strong>.<\/p><p>For this reason, MWM decided to take part in a <strong>training programme<\/strong>, specifically focused on <strong>onboarding in the logistics sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b66a4f5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-bridge_blockquote\" data-id=\"b66a4f5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"bridge_blockquote.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote class=' with_quote_icon' style=''><i class='fa fa-quote-right' style=''><\/i><h5 class='blockquote-text' style=''>Through meetings, seminars and guided workshops, MWM explored best practices for optimising the onboarding process for new employees.<\/h5><\/blockquote>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8b73d3c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8b73d3c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">But what exactly is <strong>employee onboarding<\/strong>? What are its benefits and key stages? In this article, we explore the meaning of <strong>onboarding<\/strong> in detail and share MWM&#8217;s experience of the training programme. The process is still ongoing, but it is already providing valuable insights into how we can further improve <strong>relationships with our employees<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7db3b5a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7db3b5a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Why employee onboarding is important<\/h2><p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Recruitment is not only time-consuming but also costly. Onboarding is therefore much more than a formality: it is a crucial factor in a company&#8217;s success. A well-structured <strong>onboarding process<\/strong> offers several benefits:<\/p><ul class=\"ul1\"><li><strong>Reduced employee turnover<\/strong>: a structured welcome helps employees feel <strong>valued<\/strong> and motivated to stay with the company, avoiding costly recruitment cycles.<\/li><li><strong>Increased productivity<\/strong>: new employees who receive clear, targeted training can contribute to business performance more quickly. Effective onboarding helps new recruits feel part of the company from day one, supporting their productivity and engagement.<\/li><li><strong>Improved employee engagement<\/strong>: effective onboarding encourages a sense of belonging and greater employee involvement. Employees learn what the organisation expects of them in terms of skills, communication style and attitude.<\/li><li><strong>Easier integration<\/strong>: onboarding helps new team members understand the <strong>company culture<\/strong> and <strong>build relationships<\/strong> with colleagues and managers. The aim is to create an environment where <strong>employees feel part of a team<\/strong> working towards shared goals.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0643fba elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0643fba\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The key stages of employee onboarding<\/h2><p>The <strong>onboarding process<\/strong> can be divided into several stages, which may vary depending on the size and complexity of the company.<\/p><ol><li><strong>Pre-onboarding (before the first day)<br \/><\/strong>\u2022 Sending information materials (company handbooks, policies and regulations)<br \/>\u2022 Creating a personalised onboarding plan<br \/>\u2022 Communicating with the new employee to clarify any questions and expectations<br \/><br \/><\/li><li><strong>First day and first week<br \/><\/strong>\u2022 Official welcome to the company<br \/>\u2022 Introductions to colleagues and a tour of the premises<br \/>\u2022 Provision of work equipment (computer, access badge and login credentials)<br \/>\u2022 Initial briefing with the line manager<br \/><br \/><\/li><li><strong>First month<br \/><\/strong>\u2022 Role-specific training and introduction to company procedures<br \/>\u2022 Support from a company mentor or tutor<br \/>\u2022 Initial operational tasks and progress assessment<br \/><br \/><strong>Training<\/strong> is part of the long-term onboarding process and is best supported by a company mentor or tutor. Even the most experienced employee needs a period of training to understand how processes work within a new organisation or team.<br \/><br \/><\/li><li><strong>First three to six months<br \/><\/strong>\u2022 Regular feedback and performance review meetings<br \/>\u2022 Full integration into the company culture<br \/>\u2022 Potential assignment of new responsibilities<br \/><br \/><strong>Integration into the organisational culture<\/strong> is an ongoing process. However, those responsible for onboarding should provide employees with a comprehensive overview of the company culture when they first join.<br \/><br \/><\/li><li><strong>First year<br \/><\/strong>\u2022 Assessment of employee performance and satisfaction<br \/>\u2022 Adjustments to the employee&#8217;s professional development plan, where necessary<br \/>\u2022 Consolidation of the employee&#8217;s role within the organisation<\/li><\/ol><p><br \/>It is important to maintain <strong>regular contact with employees<\/strong> to ensure they feel <strong>supported<\/strong> and <strong>engaged<\/strong>. Scheduling <strong>periodic meetings<\/strong> provides an opportunity to review their progress together, identify any challenges and address areas requiring improvement.<\/p><p>Where necessary, the <strong>onboarding process<\/strong> can be adapted to better meet the needs of both the employee and the company. This approach helps employees <strong>establish themselves in their roles<\/strong>, increasing their confidence and improving their <strong>performance<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-db8f03d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"db8f03d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2 data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">MWM&#8217;s training programme: building an effective onboarding process<\/h2><p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">MWM decided to invest in <strong>onboarding training<\/strong> by participating in <em>Una Logistica fatta di Persone<\/em> (<em>Logistics Powered by People<\/em>), a three-day training programme held in Milan and organised by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdo.org\/\">CDO<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p><p>The programme addressed several key challenges facing the logistics sector, including:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Staff shortages in the logistics sector<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>The attractiveness of the sector and strategies to improve it<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Evolving skills requirements and the need for new professional roles<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>We chose to participate in this programme because the issue of <strong>people<\/strong>, closely linked to the attractiveness of our sector, is particularly relevant to MWM today.<\/p><p>As with previous initiatives, we wanted to create an <strong>opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences<\/strong> with other companies providing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/en\/third-party-logistics-a-strategic-help-for-your-company-business\/\">third-party logistics services<\/a><\/strong> and with logistics managers. This exchange of experiences enabled us to examine the challenges, strategies and methods adopted across the sector, from branding and marketing to recruitment interviews, <strong>onboarding<\/strong> and day-to-day staff management.<\/p><p>One of the most significant outcomes was the establishment of a <strong>dedicated onboarding working group<\/strong>, supported by the Politecnico di Milano Observatory and company mentors.<br \/>The group is currently collecting and organising best practices from each participating company to develop a <strong>reference handbook<\/strong>.<\/p><p>This document will be available to all members of the group and will serve as a guide for implementing new initiatives aimed at further improving <strong>human resource management in the logistics sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-01402f1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-qi_addons_for_elementor_call_to_action\" data-id=\"01402f1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"qi_addons_for_elementor_call_to_action.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"qodef-shortcode qodef-m qodef-qi-call-to-action qodef-layout--standard\">\n\t<div class=\"qodef-m-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"qodef-m-content\">\n\t\t\t<h5 class=\"qodef-m-title\">\n\t\t\tWant to know more?\t\t<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"qodef-m-text\">\n\t\t\tWith our logistics consulting MWM can contribute to the growth of your business project.
