The <strong>new customs procedures<\/strong> governing <strong>trading between European countries and the United Kingdom<\/strong> have come into force, with <strong>reference to the EU-UK trade<\/strong> agreement signed on Christmas Eve. Here is a summary of the main news concerning <span style=\"color: #fdaf3f;\"><a style=\"color: #fdaf3f;\" href=\"https:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/en\/services\/transport-shipping-and-distribution\/\"><b>shipments<\/b> <\/a><\/span>of goods to and from the United Kingdom.<\/p><h2>New rules from 1 January 2021 for EU-UK trade<\/h2><p>Despite the absence of duties, trade between the countries of the European Union and the United Kingdom are subject from 1 January 2021 to <a href=\"https:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/en\/services\/customs-operations\/\"><span style=\"color: #fdaf3f;\"><b>customs obligations and<\/b> <\/span><b><span style=\"color: #fdaf3f;\">procedures<\/span><\/b><\/a> that were previously absent.<\/p><blockquote><p><em>With the exit of Great Britain from the Eurozone, trade activities to and from the UK are no longer classified as inter-community &#8220;transfers&#8221; but as <strong>import and export operations<\/strong>, subject to the rules for shipments <strong>to third countries outside the EU<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote><p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1730 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/procedure-doganali-brexit-mwm.jpg\" alt=\"Procedure doganali Gran Bretagna\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/procedure-doganali-brexit-mwm.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/procedure-doganali-brexit-mwm-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/procedure-doganali-brexit-mwm-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/procedure-doganali-brexit-mwm-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/procedure-doganali-brexit-mwm-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/mwmitaly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/procedure-doganali-brexit-mwm-700x467.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p><h2>The three basic elements of customs export: classification, origin and value<\/h2><p>In order to take advantage of the exemption from duties included in the EU-UK agreement, shipments of goods to and from the United Kingdom from 1 January 2021 must be accompanied by a customs declaration, containing 3 identifying elements of the goods: <strong>classification, origin and value<\/strong>.<\/p><h3>CLASSIFICATION<\/h3><p>The <strong>classification<\/strong> translates into a numeric code of 8 digits: the first 6 correspond to the international coding system HS (Harmonized System) while the last 2 draw on the Combined Nomenclature (NC) system to further detail the specific product. The classification conveys information relating to:<\/p><ul><li><strong>category to which they belong<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>functions<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>use<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p><br \/>It is also important to determine the possible application of rules such as controls, prohibitions or the need for special licenses.<\/p><h3>ORIGIN<\/h3><p>The <strong>origin<\/strong> communicates where the goods are produced and should therefore not be confused with the place of departure of the shipment; the origin of the goods must specify whether the product is the result of works carried out in different countries and must always be declared on the invoice accompanying the shipment. The absence of customs documents and the declaration of origin may impose the application of duties.<\/p><h3>VALUE<\/h3><p>Finally, to <strong>specify the value<\/strong> you will have to refer to the <strong>sales invoice<\/strong>. For goods of a lower value aimed at private consumers, VAT is applied to the sale and its payment therefore remains the responsibility of the seller.<\/p><h2>Northern Ireland: no changes for shipments<\/h2><p>For <strong>shipments to and from Northern Ireland<\/strong>, everything remains unchanged.
